It had been a few years since we had paid a visit to Mount Evans. We came back to knock off a couple of orphans that we left behind a few years back. I had forgotten how cool the area is. The granite talus is fun to walk on, the walls and lakes are striking and the flowing streams make the place feel alive. Mount Evans seems underrated and always exceeds my expectations.

We drove the Evans road to Summit Lake and hiked two out and back routes. The first to Rosalie Peak over Epaulet and Epaulie and the second to Rogers Peak over Mount Warren.

The hiking was relatively gentle as we covered 13 miles with just 3500ft of elevation gain. The vertical seemed to be distributed evenly across the peaks... nothing overly steep or challenging.

With the weather being touch and go, it was nice to know that if a storm came in we had a vehicle in the middle of the route to retreat to. We almost had to take advantage of this... but thankfully the storm bypassed us to the north.

The only downside of this route is hiking the road and dealing with tourists in cars whose mind and eyes are in other places.
